The song uses a similar melody and quotes lyrics from Michael's original, and as a result, he is credited as a songwriter on the track with the permission of his estate. Michael also battled Sony over the rights to his music; the crediting of Michael as a song-writer on Swift’s song allows all royalties to his estate, not the label.
